What is the Best All-in-One Stereo Systems?

Many people face the same problems when trying to build a stereo system – they either don’t have enough money for all the components they want to buy or don’t have enough space. Or both.

What can you do in these situations?

Well, if you care about the sound quality too much and want the best possible performance, you can start saving money or move to a bigger apartment. But, if you are willing to make compromises, buying an all-in-one stereo system is a viable option.

This is probably the most cost-efficient and space-saving solution for your problems. Our article about 8 best all-in-one stereo systems is here to help you with your search and clarify all the ambiguities regarding all-in-one stereo systems.

We will list all the playback options all-in-one stereo systems can have, discuss their advantages and disadvantages, and analyze their performance.

What Are All-in-One Stereo Systems and What Playback Options They Support?

As the name implies, an all-in-one stereo system is a system that can play files from various mediums (it has multiple playback options) and comes with its own speakers.

In some cases, the speakers are built inside one box. In other cases, the speakers are separate detachable units that can be connected to the main unit that already has a built-in amp and doesn’t require any additional equipment.

As far as playback options are concerned, the number of supported options varies. Some all-in-one stereo systems support up to 8 different playback options.

They can play vinyl records, old-school cassettes, CDs, they can play audio files from USB drives or SD cards, they have AUX and RCA inputs. Most of them also have FM tuners and AM tuners built inside and some are even Bluetooth-enabled.

The most advanced (and most expensive) all-in-one stereo systems also feature wi-fi connectivity and support all the popular streaming services and internet radios.

These expensive systems may even have digital audio inputs and can be controlled with an app.

So, to conclude, a simple box with two built-in speakers (or two detachable speakers) can offer you a lot of fun and help you save some money and space in the process.

That’s what all-in-one stereo systems are all about.

Advantages and Disadvantages of All-in-One Stereo Systems

As discussed in the introduction, all-in-one systems are significantly cheaper than large stereo systems with separate audio components (players, DAPs, DACs, turntables, amplifiers, speakers).

Also, they take up significantly less space than large stereo systems. Those are their two main advantages.

All-in-one stereo systems are also simpler and easier to use than large stereo systems, and they reduce the number of necessary cables and speaker wire.

The main disadvantage of all-in-one stereo systems is related to their sonic performance and overall quality.

It is perfectly natural and understandable that you can never get the same kind of sound quality from an affordable $200 all-in-one system and from a custom-made high-end stereo system that costs more than $1,000 (or even more than $10,000).

That doesn’t mean that all-in-one systems sound crappy or anything like that. Most of them actually sound pretty great for the price.

But you must have in mind that custom-made high-end stereo systems are all about performance and sound quality while all-in-one systems are all about versatility and convenience.

What About the Prices?

The prices of all-in-one systems can vary a lot. The best thing is that you can find a pretty great and versatile system for $200 or less.

Many stereo systems are priced under $500, but there’s also a number of high-end all-in-one systems priced well over $500 or even over $1,000. The upper limit is pretty high.

Some of the most expensive systems are made by well-known and respected audio manufacturers like Naim, NAD, KEF, etc.

Now that the basics are covered, we can move further onto our selection of 8 best all-in-one stereo systems.

We researched the market thoroughly, gathered all the systems that looked promising, and finally picked out our favorites.

All the systems are divided into three price categories – best under $200, best under $500, and best over $500. You just have to establish your limit and check out our top suggestions.

After you do that, you can connect the Victrola Navigator to your computer (USB cable included), open the software, and start recording.

This was our selection of 8 best all-in-one stereo systems. Hopefully, you have managed to find something that suits your budget, taste, and meets all the other requirements. For those of you who want to keep searching, we have prepared a nice and simple buyer’s guide.

Buyer’s Guide – Things to Consider When Buying an All-in-One Stereo System

Price

Whatever you’re looking for, the price and your budget limits play a huge role in the decision-making process.

If you are looking for a versatile, good-performing, and reliable but also budget-friendly all-in-one system, you should probably set your limit around $150.

You could find a nice system for $100 or less but, if you ask us, be prepared to spend a little bit more.

Depending on the features and playback options you want your stereo system to have, you will have to pay more or less for it.

For example, wi-fi connectivity can hardly be found in cheaper all-in-one systems and if you want a wi-fi-enabled system, you will have to spend $500+.

Other features (like Bluetooth connectivity, CD playback capabilities, AM/FM tuners, USB ports, etc.) can be found on cheaper systems (under $500 or under $200).

Another difference between cheap and expensive systems is in their sound quality and overall performance. Pricier systems, naturally, deliver more reliable performance and better sound.

Size

As this is one of the biggest advantages of all-in-one systems compared to custom-made systems, it’s very important to pay attention to the size of the unit and of the speakers (in case the unit comes with detachable speakers).

It doesn’t matter if the stereo system is bigger or smaller – it only matters if it fits your room/apartment.

Playback options and inputs

You are the one who decides how many and what kind of playback options your system should have. The market has something for every taste and every need.

Some systems are incredibly versatile and can play vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, audio files from USB drives, and micro SD cards. Some have Bluetooth or wi-fi connectivity. Most of them have at least one AUX or RCA input and pricier systems have digital audio inputs (optical/coaxial).

Most all-in-one stereo systems also have built-in tuners (AM and/or FM). Some systems will be more versatile and others less. What’s perfect for you depends only on your audio sources and mediums you have and want to play on your new all-in-one system.

So, if you, for example, are not a fan of vinyl and don’t use records, then you don’t need a system with a turntable. The same goes for CDs, cassettes, or any other medium.

Sound quality

Sound quality is often decided by the price. In most cases, a higher price means better sound quality, more detailed sound reproduction, and louder sound.

However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t find a great-sounding budget-friendly all-in-one system. In a way, our selection of 8 best all-in-one stereo systems proves that.

It would be ideal if you could test the system and see if it suits your taste. If you can’t try it, read our reviews and try to figure out whether you like the system or not.

One thing you cannot expect from these compact systems is powerful bass. The good news is that some systems have subwoofer outputs so you can add a subwoofer in the future and improve the overall performance.

Speaker outputs

All the units on our list of 8 best all-in-one systems come with either built-in or detachable speakers but some also have additional speaker outputs so you can connect external powered speakers to it and get a much better sound quality.

Some systems also have subwoofer outputs. If you have plans to upgrade the system in the future, make sure that the system you choose has speaker/subwoofer outputs.
